Finally, a view from the ground December 18, 2007

After years of tripping on their soulful folk rock music, we finally got to see America live in Mumbai. Unlike the regular rock concerts, this was a sit-down affair in an indoor auditorium (Shanmukhananda Hall, Sion), in-keeping with the type of music and the fan profile. After a long time, we were among the younger ones at a rock concert :-) .

The music, as expected, was great. They played all their greatest hits (I think all the songs in History for sure), and some new ones which sounded pretty good too. I think America was a bigger nostalgia trip than most other acts cos I don’t listen to it so often. So the “I haven’t heard that in ages” feeling was more frequent.

The sound was disappointing though – very flat, there was no punch or depth, and though I’m not expert, I thought the mix was not right either – the vocals could have been a bit louder.

But overall, paisa vasool. Check out some pics & Videos (sorry about the sound quality on the video)

Global Warming – is it all just Gas? December 7, 2007

In the continuing saga of the threat to the climate from Global Warming, at last, something to laugh about. Came across this really funny and ironical piece in the Times of India today which talks about how, while we fret and fume over industries and automobiles contributing to the rising pollution, as much as fourteen percent of emissions from all sources in Australia is from enteric methane from cattle and sheep – read cattle fart!

Apparently, reports Fox Newsone of the primary sources of atmospheric methane is the digestive tracts of millions of cows, sheep, pigs and, um, humans. It’s the byproduct of trillions of bacteria, properly called digestive flora, without which no mammal could get nutrition from starches and plant fibers. On the other hand, thanks to special bacteria in their stomachs, kangaroo flatulence contains no methane and scientists want to transfer that bacteria to cattle and sheep who emit large quantities of the harmful gas.

Read on for more of this gas….
